About the challenge

Frisco Hacks is a beginner-friendly hackathon focused on game development. This hackathon is open to students aged 13 and above. Whether you have absolutely 0 experience with game development or you are an experienced mastermind, this event is designed to encourage creativity and design over perfection and complexity.

Freshman at Texas A&M University studying Computer Engineering. Jovan launched Frisco Hacks to spearhead student-led innovation and hardware integration in the North Texas tech scene.

Requirements

What to Build

Participants must create a game that features a unique or interesting mechanic. Aside from this, there is no fixed theme in order to maximse creative freedom. Games, tools, prototypes are all welcome and incomplete projects are allowed.

 

What to Submit

Participants must submit a 2-3 minute video demonstrating the game in a clear and simple way. Although it is option, participants are recommended to also submit their game through Itch.io or a Github Repo.

A Discord account is required to participate and receive prizes. Participants who cannot be contacted via Discord within 7 days may forfeit their prize

Each winning team must designate one representative to receive team-level prizes.

Teams can be solo or have up to two members. Teams with more than two participants will not be eligible for prizes.

  • Unique Mechanic 50%
    How original or interesting is the core gameplay mechanic? Does it introduce a new idea or a creative twist on an existing concept?
  • Gameplay & Design 30%
    How well does the mechanic work in practice? Is the game understandable and reasonably polished for a hackathon project?
  • Presentation 20%
    Does the demonstration video clearly show the game, explain how it works, and highlight the main mechanic?
