About the challenge

We have decided that our hackathon theme this year will be Chicago. Chicago has been a home for tech in the past decade and we wanted to expand interest in this field for students and see their bright ideas come to life.

We hope that this broad topic can help foster many new and unique ideas that potentially be catapulted into startup ideas! The specific product can be up to you or your group. If you're having trouble coming up with topics, here are a few ideas to get you brainstorming:

Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Tourism: challenge participants to create AI-powered tools and services that enhance the sustainability of tourism in Chicago. This could involve developing smart algorithms for optimizing travel itineraries, recommending eco-friendly accommodations and attractions, or predicting and mitigating the environmental impact of tourism activities.

Affordable Housing Solutions: Challenge participants to develop innovative solutions for addressing the affordable housing crisis in Chicago, such as modular housing designs, co-housing models, or digital platforms for connecting renters with affordable housing options.

Ethical Shopping and Fair Trade Initiatives: Create resources and directories that promote ethical shopping and fair trade initiatives in Chicago, such as stores and markets that prioritize sustainable and ethically sourced products, support local artisans, and promote social and economic justice.

Urban Mobility and Transportation: focus on improving transportation systems within the city, such as developing apps for optimizing public transit routes, promoting carpooling or ridesharing services, or creating infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.
