Inspiration
We noticed that financial literacy is a major challenge, especially for students and young adults. Many people find budgeting and investing intimidating, and mistakes can have long-term consequences. We wanted to create a solution that makes learning about money fun, interactive, and accessible for everyone.
What it does
The Budgeting & Investment Game is a gamified platform where users simulate personal and business budgets in multiple currencies. Players make financial decisions, allocate funds, and see the consequences of their choices. Smart decisions earn points, which unlock themes, tools, and rewards, turning financial education into a playful and engaging experience.
How we built it
We developed the game using web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the interactive UI, and LocalStorage to track profiles, points, and progress. The system is lightweight, browser-based, and designed for easy expansion, with future plans for multiplayer mode, cloud saving, and analytics for learning progress.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a system that is both educational and fun was a challenge. Balancing difficulty, rewards, and real-life financial concepts took careful planning. We also had to ensure the UI is intuitive while supporting multiple currencies and both personal and business budgeting modes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a working prototype that simulates budgets, tracks points, and provides instant feedback to users. The game achieves its core goal: teaching financial literacy in a gamified way. We’re proud that it’s engaging, accessible, and has the potential to scale.
What we learned
We gained valuable experience in gamification, financial modeling, and designing educational tools. We also learned how to integrate interactive UI elements with persistent data storage and thought critically about user experience in financial simulations.
What's next for BankBlock
Future plans include adding multiplayer challenges, cloud-based progress tracking, more educational modules (like taxes, loans, and inflation), and mobile integration. We aim to make the game a comprehensive platform for financial literacy that can reach students, young adults, and even educators.
