WHAT IS THE CORPORATE TRUST COUNCIL?
The Corporate Trust Council is a coalition of select companies that commit to working with BBB Institute and other coalition members to foster a trustworthy marketplace through shared expertise, resources, and strategic initiatives. These companies share our passion for strengthening better businesses and helping people avoid scams through education.
The Corporate Trust Council seeks to:
- Build a community of better businesses by establishing best practices and delivering educational resources.
- Identify new threats to a trustworthy marketplace and create strategies to address them.
- Deliver programs, resources, and tools to protect consumers and build trust between consumers and businesses in the marketplace.

- Providing support Before, During, and After a Scam.
- BBB Institute partnered with Amazon and Capital One to build an upgraded BBB Scam Tracker in 2022, featuring a guided reporting experience, a mobile-first focus, improved search functionality, and updated technology that enables data sharing with fraud-fighting partners.
- With support from the Corporate Trust Council, we developed the Scam Prevention Guide to provide people with the knowledge they can use to spot and avoid scams.
- Utilizing a trauma-informed design, the BBB Scam Survival Toolkit provides consumers and small businesses with a personalized recovery plan to help restore their financial, mental, and emotional well-being
- Building support for scam survivors.
- Corporate Trust Council members joined BBB Institute to introduce Scam Survivor Day, which uplifts men and women who report their scam experiences and seeks to remove the stigma that keeps others from reporting.
- Spreading awareness through consumer education campaigns.
- Target supported BBB Institute’s gift card scam awareness campaign that used humor and empowerment to reach consumers age 65+, the age group most frequently reporting this scam.
- Walmart partnered with BBB Institute on a campaign that reminded consumers to “Do your part. Shop smart.” to avoid fake sites, fraudulent merchandise, and stolen packages.
- BBB Institute and Amazon partnered on a campaign to help people recognize and avoid losing money to impersonation scams.
