What to Build
In TerraHacks, participants are encouraged to harness their creativity to develop innovative and impactful solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future. Address challenges related to climate change, conservation, renewable energy, waste management, and community engagement, using the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as your framework. You are free to choose any challenge that resonates with you. Whether you're building an app for tracking carbon footprints, a platform for connecting volunteers to local environmental projects, a tool for visualizing pollution data, or any other software solution, your goal is to drive positive change in the environment and society through technology.
Here are some project ideas to inspire your creativity:
-
Sustainable Apps: Develop mobile or web applications that help users adopt sustainable practices, such as carbon footprint calculators, recycling guides, or sustainable lifestyle tips.
-
Data Visualization Tools: Create interactive visualizations that make complex environmental data accessible and engaging, such as maps showing pollution levels, deforestation rates, or renewable energy resources.
-
Educational Platforms: Build online platforms or e-learning modules that educate users about sustainability, climate change, biodiversity, and actionable steps they can take in their daily lives.
-
Community Engagement Solutions: Design tools that connect communities with local environmental initiatives, providing information about volunteer opportunities, clean-up events, or local conservation projects.
-
Policy Advocacy Platforms: Create websites or apps that empower citizens to engage with environmental policies, offering resources for advocacy, educational materials, and ways to participate in local initiatives.
Disclaimer: Keep in mind that there are many ways to solve these problems—whether by educating, advocating, or developing tech-based solutions, all approaches are valid and impactful. We encourage creativity in finding solutions that resonate with your skills and passions!
