“The irony is that the Olympics themselves are built around the idea that sport can exist alongside political tension without pretending it does not exist. The International Olympic Committee’s own language – athletes should not be punished for governments’ actions – implicitly acknowledges that governments are part of the Olympic theater whether organizers like it or not.

“Friday night illustrated that perfectly. American athletes were cheered, their enormous contingent given one of the most full-throated receptions of the night. The political emissaries were not universally welcomed. Both things can be true at once.”

#thank you for loving our athletes and hating our politicians#thank you everyone who cheered for our athletes and booed for Vance#all the athletes from all countries should be celebrated

i’m thinking about charlotte brontë spending her last years editing and publishing her sisters’ writings and about christopher tolkien dedicating his life to the protection and meticulous reconstruction his father’s life’s work and about johanna van gogh publishing the letters between vincent and theo that would propel vincent van gogh into fame because she knew how much her husband had loved his brother, and about how so often art isn’t just a reflection of the artist’s mind and skills but a testament to the fact that they were loved

My sister just quoted this post at me over dinner bc it was discussed in her philosophy class & I can’t even smugly inform her of its authorship. Due to the mindhunter yaoi state of my most recent blog history.

i am absolutely baffled by the speed of spread of this pattern. do you know how long it takes to knit 2000 hats……

a) YES (screencap of a reply to a groupchat this appeared in)

good morning. I have seen that come across my timeline, and read the whole story the other day. I think overwhelming numbers are what makes nonviolent protest effective, and little things like armbands and hats and whistles can signal to others that are not alone, which makes it easier to commit to the action. which is a long way of saying, I do not think the hats are silly, and I think that the silent majority needs to get loud because solidarity is what is going to get us through this administration. and matching hats is an easy way to demonstrate that.ALT

b) I am going to (and vote we push to) cross off the make something red square in @2026-fiber-arts-bingo with this pattern.

‘being single sucks because youll be lonely’ lame and untrue. 'being single sucks because a lot of groceries are portioned to make food for more than one person and you cant really take advantage of buying in bulk because it’ll go bad before you use it all’ this i cannot deny.
