Inspiration
I already did similar tribute for NES for another hackathon.
It was fun to both try out Grok capabilities for code generation and to design more advanced virtual console with higher res graphics and multiple background layers.
What it does
You can vibe code and play small SNES-style games on our virtual gamingconsole.
How we built it
This is mostly built on https://berrry.app with exception of:
- some ideation done with Grok
- debug sessions with Claude Code
Challenges we ran into
Grok sometimes has trouble generating sprites.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Got graphics, text and sound all running within hackathon time.
I love that I was able to do whole debugging UI as well.
What we learned
Grok needs some help rendering sprites in text.
What's next for X9000
- Try game generation with other models
- Save games on backend so that can create and post on X directly
- Shared leaderboard for everybody playing the game
- Use some other module for graphics (e.g. retrodiffusion for 16px+ sprites)
Built With
- berrry
- claude
- grok
