The idea for this app comes from the movies "Shop Around the Corner" and "You've Got Mail," where two characters communicate anonymously, having serious conversations. Tinder is currently the most popular "dating" app out there, but it's superficial, and I doubt anybody's going to start a real relationship (friendship or otherwise) off of Tinder. Hence wonder was created, an app that provides the same appealing user interface and simple design of Tinder, but allows people to choose their matches based off of hobbies, interests, etc. instead of photos.

The user interface and overall design of the app are nowhere near final. A final version would be a bit more slick, like other social apps.

Here's how it works. You sign up and choose an Alias - the app uses no photos, no real names - from a list of names that have meanings associated with them. After putting in basic info like gender and age (you need to be 18 or older), you list hobbies, interests, favorite books, conversation topics, and so on. Finally, you put together a quick bio (no heavy personal info) focusing on the kind of person you're hoping to match with. You also choose a "spirit animal" which will act as your picture.

The app is location based, allowing you to choose where you search for people. This means you can possibly look for a foreign pen pal, if that's what you wanted.

Once your profile is set, you can look at conversations you're having with people or click the "wonder" button, which allows you to search for new people to talk to. The final version of the app would incorporate word clouds into people's profiles for a more appealing user interface.

Late in development, we decided to change the entire nature of the project. Inspired by the Crush pages that most universities have on Facebook, we decided to begin working on an app that allows users to send anonymous crushes and compliments to people. We are still working on this, but we are excited to see how it turns out.
