Inspiration

Ever since COVID impacted the way people work, there has been an increasing need for wellness resources to help people feel supported and make choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. However, because there are so many resources out there, it’s difficult for people to keep track of all these resources and remember to use them consistently. Thus, we were inspired to create a consolidated platform that help users increase mindfulness and track their wellness progress.

What it does

The activities page provides the user with 10 self-soothing prompts that can be checked off like a checklist. The mood checker survey reminds the user to take a moment in their day to reflect on how they're feeling. Through checking boxes on a daily basis, we hope to provide users with more opportunities to self-reflect, learn, grow, appreciate little moments. The meditation page links the user to 4 meditation videos from YouTube. The inspirational quotes page generates inspirational quotes with a click of a button and is intended to offer a mood boost for the user.

How we built it

To create Well Hacks, we used CSS, HTML, and some Javascript. We collaborated on GitHub and used www.w3schools.com to search for ideas and tutorials on implementing code.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge in building Well Hacks has been our lack of experience with advanced concepts of website development, especially with databases. Our website is mostly static, and our goal for the future is to be able to store user input (from forms like the mood tracker and the gratitude survey) so that the user can access it in the future and observe their wellness trend over time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Coming into this Hackathon, most of the members on the team had limited knowledge over version control and the use of git. With the help of resources online and some trial-and-error, we were able to work on different web pages simultaneously and merge them into one complete project in the end. With effective communication within the team and with mentors, we were able see our project come to fruition from the initial brainstorming phase within the short time phrase.

What we learned

Most of us were fairly inexperienced with HTML and CSS, so we were all learning together how to make a website. As well as this we learnt how to use git to share the files and update them together. It was a group experience of supporting each other as some of us had better knowledge of certain aspects than others.

What's next for Well Hacks

We would incorporate a database so that every time a survey is filled out it’s saved to the database. This was we could also have a page that shows a summary of all the data and could have some kind of achievements section. As well as this we would likely get a domain and upload the website onto a server.
