Inspiration
Traveling in big groups have always required a lot of research and planning; people often find themselves struggling to find the most affordable option, but realize they do not have hours to waste net-surfing. As teammates who traveled more than usual this year, we wanted a more convenient way to organize overall transportation.
What it does
"Wee" is a web app that pulls data from one of the most reliable travel-data sources (Priceline) and one of the fastest growing transportation industries (Uber) in the US. The UI and concept allow users to find affordable living and seamless transportation with just a few clicks. More significantly, "Wee" gives suggestions for living & traveling combinations based on price, but allows flexibility for potential customers to make their own decisions. Overall, it is a fun travel planner on-the-go - planning has never been easier.
How I built it
All visuals and UI were built through HTML & CSS based on original graphic mockups. The algorithm itself was built through Python, using the Priceline API and Uber API.
Challenges I ran into
Some of our former members graduated so we had to spend a lot of time learning new things from scratch while balancing out the work between less people.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We both learned/got more familiar with completely new things (HTML, CSS, Django) and developed a better understanding of what we're capable of.
What I learned
Organization is key, and sometimes needing more teammates is not a bad thing.
What's next for Wee
Wee is far from perfect, but conceptually, it is effective in the sense that it brings us one step closer to making traveling more seamless. We plan to organize the UI and provide additional filter options to make the user experience easier. We also plan to use data analysis to create visual representations (graphs, charts, etc.) for users to easily compare categories. With all the modern data and technology we have, working together and combining certain data can make life quicker, more efficient, and less stressful. That's our biggest goal for "Wee".
