🌍 apocalypse.exe

A chaotic, glitchy, dystopian digital experience exploring the end of the internet through 10 interactive experiments.

💡 Inspiration

The web today is polished, predictable, and perfect and that’s exactly what we wanted to destroy.
apocalypse.exe was born from the idea of exploring what happens when the internet begins to break down.

Inspired by cyberpunk art, AI absurdity, and glitch aesthetics, it reimagines the end of digital order, a playground of distortion, chaos, and beauty in collapse.

⚙️ What It Does

apocalypse.exe is a collection of 10 interactive web experiments that simulate different stages of the digital apocalypse.

Each route is a unique experience, from a self-destructing portfolio and broken AI chatbot to a judgmental to-do list and an infinite loading screen.

Together, they form a dystopian metaverse of decay, humor, and reflection on our relationship with technology.

🧠 How We Built It

  • Framework: Next.js 15 (App Router)
  • UI: React 19 + Tailwind CSS 4
  • Design: Pure CSS glitch effects, distortion filters, and neon cyberpunk palette
  • Hosting: Vercel (zero-config deployment)
  • Tools: v0.app for UI prototyping

Every experience runs fully client-side, using React hooks and CSS animations for smooth, performance-friendly chaos. No external APIs or libraries — just handcrafted digital entropy.

🚧 Challenges We Ran Into

  • Maintaining visual coherence across 10 distinct experiences
  • Simulating real-time glitching and DOM destruction without lag
  • Crafting fake AI behavior that feels wrong but believable
  • Keeping chaos fun yet functional which is playful, not frustrating
  • Ensuring mobile responsiveness despite animation-heavy designs

🏆 Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

  • Built 10 original, interactive web experiments under a unified apocalyptic theme
  • Achieved a consistent cyberpunk aesthetic using only Tailwind + CSS
  • Created a satirical digital narrative that feels both humorous and unsettling
  • Fully deployed, optimized, and responsive on Vercel
  • Turned a creative concept of “the death of the internet” into a living, interactive art project

📚 What We Learned

  • Advanced Next.js app routing for complex multi-route projects
  • Deep dive into React performance optimization and dynamic rendering
  • How to create glitch and chaos effects with pure CSS
  • Designing experiences that blend art, code, and philosophy
  • The power of playful storytelling through UI/UX

🔮 What’s Next for apocalypse.exe

  • Add new experiences: “Captcha Wars,” “404 Heaven,” “Memory Leak City”
  • Integrate AI-driven chaos — real models powering fake intelligence
  • Add soundscapes and ambient destruction audio
  • Experiment with multiplayer chaos, collective site destruction
  • Showcase as a digital art installation in online exhibitions

Welcome to the end of the internet. Enjoy the collapse. 💀
