Inspiration
Students want to develop their technical skills through side projects, and many non-profits and start-ups do not have the expertise to solve technical problems.
What it does
Students seeking volunteer project opportunities create profiles on Watts, outlining their skills and their preferred type of work. Watts then extracts key words from their submissions and generates a list of most relevant help-seeking requests from organizations in the KW region. Similarly, individuals and organizations seeking help can create profiles outlining the kinds of services they require and Watts will generate a list of students most compatible with their needs.
How I built it
Images were created with Canva and a website demonstration was created with HTML and CSS.
Challenges I ran into
We investigated the use of AI APIs, which did not prove to be useful to the final product.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We feel that we have worked on a project that is mutually beneficial to students at UW and members of the local community.
What I learned
Hosting websites on GitHub.
What's next for Watts
Integrating AI APIs so that student profiles can be matched with help-seekers and vice-versa.
