Inspiration
Modern love is messy. Ghosting, unclear intentions, emotional labor—dating in the digital age often leads to more confusion than connection. We wanted to build something different. Something that empowers people to enter emotional spaces with clarity, honesty, and consent.
UPA was born to fill that gap: a tool that lets you make emotional agreements before a date, get meaningful feedback after, and grow along the way. It’s not a dating app. It’s a culture-shifting platform for authentic relationships.
What it does
UPA is a web app where users can:
- Create emotional agreements before a date or meeting.
- Define intentions, boundaries, and dealbreakers.
- Receive personalized reflections from AI coaches (with real voices).
- Track emotional growth through badges and a karma system.
- Navigate their profile and history via a scrollable dashboard.
Everything was designed with empathy, built for clarity, and powered by real-time AI.
How we built it
- Bolt.new: Full UI/UX logic and responsive design (dark/light mode).
- Supabase: Database for agreements, users, feedback, badges.
- ElevenLabs: AI-generated voice reflections for coaching feedback.
- Tavus CVI: Live video interactions with avatar coaches.
- Netlify: Deployment.
- Entri: Custom domain setup.
We built it modular, scalable, and without writing a single line of code.
Challenges we ran into
- Creating emotionally intuitive UI/UX within Bolt’s no-code constraints.
- Integrating Tavus CVI without backend extensions.
- Designing coach flows with natural voice and meaningful timing.
- Making feedback feel human and safe—not robotic or forced with ElevenLabs.
- Balancing humor, depth, and emotional utility in one tool.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a fully modular app that functions end-to-end with real users
- Seamless integration of multiple technologies (voice, video, gamification)
- A UX that feels intuitive, warm, and emotionally resonant
- Launched a new category: AI-mediated emotional agreements
- Transformed a big emotional idea into a functional tool—within a hackathon
What we learned
- Emotional design requires as much intention as technical design.
- AI can enhance trust when used to mirror—not manipulate—feelings.
- People crave structure in emotional spaces; UPA gives it playfully.
- No-code doesn’t mean no power: Bolt was surprisingly expansive.
What's next for UPA
- Shareable agreements via secure links.
- Contextual coaching with Claude AI.
- Blockchain integration with Algorand.
- Group coaching sessions.
- Launching UPA for real communities.
UPA began as an experiment. It’s quickly becoming a movement.
