Inspiration

Timmy.ai was inspired by the challenges faced by dementia patients during moments of confusion and anxiety, especially when they are alone. We wanted to create a gentle, always-available companion that could provide reassurance and guidance without replacing human caregivers. The goal was to use AI to support dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing, while also giving caregivers peace of mind.


What it does

Timmy.ai is an AI-powered dementia companion that helps patients stay calm, oriented, and safe. Through a simple desktop interface, it provides reassurance, answers orientation questions, gives daily reminders, and allows patients to quickly request help. When distress or emergencies occur, caregivers are notified with meaningful, AI-interpreted updates rather than raw data.


How we built it

We built Timmy.ai using Python and Pygame for the patient-facing desktop application, designed with large buttons and minimal interactions for accessibility. The AI layer uses Azure OpenAI with LangChain to handle dementia-safe conversations, intent detection, and summarisation. The system follows an agentic approach, combining rule-based logic with LLM reasoning to decide when to reassure users or alert caregivers. All core logic runs locally, keeping the system simple and privacy-conscious.
