Inspiration

In the current age of technology, there are so many tools for each specific task, which makes it much more cluttered and distracting when trying to be productive with these tools. This is a problem for almost everyone because of the widespread use of technology for handling events and daily tasks because of the complexity for every software. So, with our retro yet modern and intuitive website, every tool that you need is ready at just a click, from emails to calendars to a to-do list, with an interface that even appeals to boomers.

What it does

The simple retro website shows you all of the content that you need in one page. The email page shows emails, the calendar shows you your events, and the to-do list shows you your daily tasks. However, these aren't simply services stitched together, as they all have intercommunication and can automatically create due dates or event times in the calendar and to-do list, straight from the dates found in emails. Essentially, it's the best all-in-one productivity software that handles all your needs.

How we built it

Using HTML, we built a simple interface containing all the pages needed for the email, calendar, and to-do list. Then, using CSS and Javascript, the retro design used for adapting to a diverse range of the population and the logic is provided, which holds the entire website together. The Python backend controls the information for each individual user, efficiently receiving and sending data.

Challenges we ran into

Because of the programming system, the integration with Google Drive files, calendar, and mail couldn't be done in time, which resulted in a blank page. Additionally, we started the backend with Node.js, but because the time efficiency was lower for Node.js, we switched to Flask then normal Javascript for the simple efficiency again.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our designs and styling were quite retro, which did adhere to the retro GUI theme. Because our focus was on this theme, the overall logic was slightly lost, but we believe that our design perfectly matches the theme of the Hackathon.

What we learned

We learned that sometimes, complexity is less efficient than simple design that can complete simple tasks. Because of our complex goals, many of the features we wanted to include couldn't be done in time. In the future, we would split the long time given in Hackathons into smaller sections, to create a sense of urgency that would lead to a lot of work getting done.

What's next for Time In One

Due to our lack in time management, we could use our own app for the planning and new developments in the future if we were to continue the development. In conclusion, we believe that our app has potential for success if we had more time and focus on modern yet retro features and components.
