Inspiration
In Mexico, 1.2 million metric tons of technological waste are discarded every year, and the environmental impact of this is increasing. We have also been detecting a new trend similar to "fast fashion" but with technology, so we decided to combat this problem with our project.
What it does
We receive your technology products that are no longer useful or no longer wanted, evaluate them and give you points in return. You can use these points to redeem them on the platform and get new products while helping the planet.
We take care of recycling these products with strategic partners so that the user doesn't have to worry about anything.
How we built it
We use React together with MaterialUI in order to have a modern and responsive interface, as well as being scalable in the future if necessary.
Challenges we ran into
Especially the financial side as well as the logistical side, as dealing with the points side of things is not a trivial task, so this was certainly one of the biggest challenges we had.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The business model, we believe, is something original that certainly has a lot of potential for scalability, it has to go through a lot of refinement processes but it is a very good basis to start from.
What we learned
How waste is processed in Mexico, technologies like MaterialUI and above all how important it is to start recycling.
What's next for TechYard
Once we have a solid user base we will refine the monetisation methods as we have several plans that could help build an even more robust platform.
