Inspiration

There has been much concern about cryptocurrency effects on carbon emissions. Some ways for individual consumers to mitigate their negative impact is with the purchase of carbon offsets. However, there is no current solution in web2/web3 which verifies that individuals are paying for their share.

Solutions like Miro enable individuals to get receipts for buying BCT. KlimaDAO puts all funds into a treasury for purchasing offsets. SusDAO brings responsibility for sustainable carbon emissions starting from the individual.

We created a DAO which incentivizes and builds a community around offsetting carbon emissions.

What it does

SusDAO - the sustainability DAO

Carbon emissions tracking -- analyze transactions associated with connected wallet and determine the carbon tonnage needed to offset transaction costs
UI -- gaining insight into crypto users carbon
Tree token -- obtained through swapping for BCT. BCT will be retired, so it's sequestered into the earth.
Dynamic NFT -- badge that proves your sustainability status in web3.

How we built it

Used React to build landing page and web app
Integration with MetaMask
Used Firebase to deploy web app
Used Polygon's Quickswap to perform USDC <> BCT swap
Use Polygon's smart contracts to mint tiered NFTs
Will use Toucan Protocol to retire BCT to offset emissions

Vision

How do we band individuals in a verifiable way around sustainability?

Miami is one city vulnerable to rising sea levels brought about by increased carbon in the atmosphere.

SusDAO is a social DAO which enables and empowers web3 users to do sustainability by:

Calculates carbon offsets from the user's past transactions
Grants a token that dynamically tracks carbon offsets from mining. After the user opts to become carbon neutral, they receive a shared NFT that updates its color and status upon future transactions
Gamifies activities that offset carbon, from obtaining BCT and retiring it
Provides a forum with voting mechanisms for top ideas. Users receive contribution tokens. Host co-working sessions in the style of Ultraworking and Focusmate. Host salons inspired by Interintellect.

Furthermore, we promote access to the core values of web3 (different freedom), welcoming sustainability-minded users of web2.

The app grants the user a tiered NFT. Once the user is granted the SusDAO NFT, the community will vote on sustainable products such as integration with other wallets, chains, and services.
