Inspiration
We wanted to make a game focused on the college student experience. This game is roughly modeled on pokemon. It's a whimsical take on the everyday struggle between studying and procrastination. It's also a great de-stressor because you can actually beat your homework in it!
What it does
The character, a smith student, runs around the campus. Various buildings have different homework assignments that the student can either fight and complete or procrastinate and run away from.
How we built it
We created it using Java and a Java GUI for graphics
Challenges we ran into
Making the GUI actually display what we wanted when we wanted
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's a pretty entertaining game now! And we were able to use graphics of Smith Campus to make it a little more realistic.
What we learned
Game development is a lot of fun! But getting it to look polished is difficult.
What's next for Student-mon
We want to make it so that the student can go to the corner store to buy more food and increase health. We also want to make it so that the character moving around the screen is customizable. Eventually maybe we could brush it up and post it online for other students to play and enjoy!
