Inspiration

The inspiration behind our project is this article about how kids these days are getting increasingly less interested in careers related to space exploration in favor of the more “trendier” careers like being a Youtuber.

What it does

Our program focuses on two major things. The first part is that we connect students interested in space exploration outside of the classroom. We provide a platform for students to add project ideas, and for other students to execute those projects. Doing so, we accomplish the second goal of bridging the creative processes of ideation and execution. Students often have project ideas that they may not plan on executing, and others who have difficulty coming up with project ideas, and our project serves both.

How I built it

As for our web application, we made a fully fledged program with server side code in Node.js with mongoDB database to store projects and log in info, and html and css for the frontend.

What I learned

Our main goal was to make a full fledged program, no matter how small it is and we accomplished that. We can all walk confidently out of the Hackathon today being able to say that we can make a web app from start to finish, from setting up a server to integrating it with the web UI.

What's next for Space Connect

In the future, we hope to expand this project further and implement the role of an educator to assess and approve project ideas to connect teachers and students interested in space exploration for more credibility and depth of learning.
