Inspiration

As current and incoming university students, budgeting is a dull, but essential part of our lives. Rather than keeping track of finances through a spreadsheet and shedding a tear every time you open your bank account, how can we incentivise healthy spending habits?

What it does

Slyther helps users set customised budgeting goals and keep track of their spending while having fun collecting nuggets (our in-game currency) that go towards in-game rewards.

How we built it

Front-end: ReactJS, CSS/HTML Back-end: NodeJS Frameworks: ExpressJS, Nodemon

Challenges we ran into

We had troubles getting Firebase working for the back-end, so we opted for a front-end-only approach due to time constraints.

We also ran into organisational issues, finding it difficult to track the source of errors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It worked in the end.

What we learned

As beginners at this hackathon, we all gained experience working on a shared project, delegating tasks, and merging our work to produce a cohesive project. Victor and Alice learned JavaScript and the various frameworks that go along with it! Overall, we were super happy to be here at NwHacks :)
