Inspiration

We were inspired by how astronauts are consistently able to get a good night's rest in the toughest environments and this research https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3499892/.

What it does

Encourages sleep-inducing releases and also encourages alertness in 8-hour cycles to help people sleep and wake up routinely with high impact neuroactivity supported by NASA research.

How we built it

Raspberry Pi wirelessly controlled through an SSH VNC on my laptop which in turn is a local server. So I can pass commands to the Pi wirelessly over its host port and tell it what type of action I want to take. The Pi then controls the LCD panel to change light settings accordingly ad remotely. We can also control the mask through an Android phone by Activating Remote Debugging.

Challenges we ran into

Building a Comfortable Mask and connecting and controlling the raspberry pi wirelessly with external powerbank

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Product design and functionality, budget and sleep improvement, comfort, and finishing the project!

What we learned

Raspberry Pi's wireless connectivity and that red light can stimulate sleep better than extreme darkness.

What's next for SleepLight

Higher feedback color shifts, ie using software to promote better breathing and sleep states for a more fulfilling rest for the average user and inpatients.
