Sign Customiser

Inspiration

Sign stores worldwide struggle with selling custom signage online. The quoting process is manual, slow, and error-prone. We built Sign Customiser to solve this — giving sign shops a powerful product configurator that lets their customers design and price custom signs in real time.

What it does

Sign Customiser is a multi-platform tool (Shopify, WooCommerce, standalone) that embeds into any sign store's website. Customers can:

• Choose from hundreds of sign type combinations
• Customise dimensions, materials, colours, fonts, and mounting options
• See real-time pricing with advanced formula-based calculations
• Preview their custom sign with AI-powered design rendering
• Place orders directly through the store's checkout

For store owners, it supports multi-currency and multi-lingual configurations, advanced pricing models, and a full management dashboard.

How we built it

The frontend is built with React and TypeScript, designed as an embeddable widget that integrates seamlessly with Shopify and WooCommerce. The backend runs on Node.js with a robust pricing engine that handles complex formula-based calculations across different sign types, materials, and customisation options.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was building a pricing engine flexible enough to handle the enormous variety of sign configurations while remaining fast enough for real-time price updates. Each sign type can have dozens of variables affecting price.

What we learned

Deep domain knowledge matters. Working closely with sign shop owners taught us that the real value isn't just in the configurator — it's in reducing the back-and-forth quoting process that costs shops hours per day.

What's next for Sign Customiser

Expanding AI capabilities for automatic sign design suggestions, adding more e-commerce platform integrations, and building out analytics so shop owners can see which configurations convert best.
