What it does
The app is here to listen and make sure you are protected 24/7.
When in danger, just shout to activate the app.
Go outside alone safely knowing you are your own knight and we’ll be your shining armor.
Here to reduce the crime rate and protect victims and bystanders.
Features
Volume Meter: If the volume is over 90 decibels, we will immediately email your contacts.
Sending the Email: It will automatically send an email to your emergency contact for them to check up on you through the phone.
Getting Your Location(WIP) : The location will be sent to your emergency contact along with the email in case you don't pick up the phone and need to come find you or contact the police.
Challenges I ran into
It was tough to email an external contact as I had an issue with creating functions that would work outside the app. After getting over the challenge, I learned how to better use APIs and understood how automated emailing systems worked. Creating the sound meter also stumped me for a little while, but now I’ve also learned about the aspects of audio such as translating it into bytes, and furthered my knowledge of user media.
What's next for Shining Armour
Shining Armour isn’t over when the hackathon is over! The workshops and mentors have really enlightened us and inspired us for this project, and we still have plans to come. Many of our features such as finding your location are actually still in the works. As a part of our campaign, we also plan to add a feature for the app to be used even when it's not open and find out how to better store the user information such as contacts in the cloud.
