Inspiration
While doing our research, we came across articles where Singaporeans overseas expressed that they feel detached to their homeland and wish they could be a part of the celebrations here. Hence, we thought of making an application prototype where they are able to experience and enjoy Singapore despite being far away from home.
What it does
Our application prototype encompasses the many experiences that a Singaporean living here experiences. We have tried to add these experiences into this application through blogs, livestreams, videos and images along with recipes for them to try out. It also includes a chat function where they can connect with other Singaporeans living close by, allowing them to be part of the Singaporean community away from home. Our application is a home away from home.
How we built it
We began by putting out all the features and details we want to include in our application. Then we sketched out how we would want our application interface to look on paper to get a better idea of the layout. Once we all agreed to a design, we made a mind map of how we want to divide and link the different pages. After which, we were able to dive right into creating our prototype.
Challenges we ran into
We were unable to think of a colour theme that would look good on our prototype. We were all rather new to using Figma for wire-framing but we managed to learn and work together to make a prototype we were happy with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were able to effectively narrow down our scope for the application. When we were able to do that, we could efficiently get work done in a very short period of time. We were able to communicate clearly as a team to get things done.
What we learned
Since we were rather new to wire-framing using Figma, it took us some time to warm up to using it but we managed to get a hold of it. Once we learnt how the platform works, we were able to play around and explore the many functions available.
What's next for SGConnect
We believe that after we are able to solidify our prototype, we would like to do some user testing to get better feedback from potential users to improve our prototype before we can move onto eventually coding the application. From the feedback, we can change the functions and UI/UX to give our users a better experience using the application.
