Inspiration

There are several secure authentication platforms out there but they all have their fair share of disadvantages. Secure solutions often leave out people with disabilities and tend to be extremely complicated for non tech-savvy users to comprehend. We came up with a product that takes these factors into consideration and offers the next generation level of security. It’s fast and easy to use, and it helps promote a more inclusive society.

What it does

SecureText allows users to choose multiple methods of authentication such as: Face recognition Facial expressions Advanced patterns Voice passwords Users can select multiple methods at the same time which provides additional layers of security to their accounts. They can also leverage these advanced methods of encryption while exchanging messages among other users. Now, those with disabilities will still be able to have effective security with our methods of authentication.

How we built it

The hand gesture recognition was built using Python and Flask. Facial recognition and speech recognition were done through Google Cloud platform and custom machine learning models we made from scratch.

Challenges we ran into

Merging everything together was a hurdle since there were so many different components. We had hand gesture recognition, facial recognition, text to speech recognition and other services.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We all feel proud of this project since its an original idea we came up with and currently there isn’t anything like this in the market. The math and the theory that was involved in was heavy. It would be a perfect fit for a research project because there’s a lot more to be explored in this field.

What we learned

Promoting an inclusive society is important and there is no better way to do this than through technology. This was a meaningful project for all of us because we deeply cared about what we were building because we personally experienced these problems with people we know.

What's next for SecureText

Accessibility is an important part in creating an open internet. SecureText can be integrated into existing services. We provided an interesting framework for a future innovation. We would like to continue working on it and test the authentication implementation with an existing online service.
