Inspiration
1 in 20 Americans are currently deaf or hard of hearing and rely on ASL as their primary form of communication. But online through SMS there isn't really a way to communicate easily in their most comfortable language.
What it does
Enter cspeech, a simple website to send a SMS message in the form of a American Sign Language video message.
How I built it
Built with a python flask backend and a simple bootstrap frontend
Challenges I ran into
My frontend and design skills were the main limiting factor sucking up hours of time with small payoffs.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is my first real project with Flask and I learned React enough to realize it was a detriment to a one page bootstrap website.
Future goals
-Have a fun mode to communicate through gifs -Send longer messages
Built With
- css
- html
- javascript
- jupyter-notebook
