ScrypticCard

Inspiration

Credit cards are a convenient method for paying the expense of unforeseen financial emergencies and spreading out big payments over time. However, there are stark contrasts in access to credit for African Americans such as Interest rates on business loans, bank branch density, local banking concentration in the residential mortgage market, and the growth of local businesses are markedly different in majority Black neighborhoods. Further, People of color are more unlikely to have credit cards and are more likely to be credit invisible, which means they have no credit history. In a 2020 survey, about 18% of Black respondents did not have credit score, whereas 15% of Hispanic/Latinos, 13% of White people, and 10% of Asians did not have credit score. Thus, there is a need to find ways to increase credit card accessibility to people of colors and make it easier for them to obtain credit card.
