Inspiration
People that are suffering from deterioration in health due to lack of knowledge or ability read the medication that they take on a timely basis.
What it does
Scans barcode of over the counter medicine, and returns data concerning the ingredients, effects, anddosage size of the medication.
How we built it
Utilizing Android Studion along with three APIs (Scanndit, Walmart Labs, openFDA)
Challenges we ran into
Linking UI to internet protocol functionality. Obtaining keys for API. Linking barcode scanner to application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the barcode scanner work and return the barcode. Running said barcode through database to obtain product information, and running through FDA database to receive medicine information.
What we learned
Learned how to utilize APIs and HTTPRequests through Android Studio, as well as implementing a barcode scanner.
What's next for scanOTC
Prescription medication marked with NDC, translating labels, medical information pertaining to allergies. Make the UI a little more responsive.
