Inspiration

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world is more united through online resources and platforms. Teachers and professors are being forced to switch their way of teaching and get accustomed to technology. They are also not available to answer student questions at all times. We explored ways to make an easy and flexible teaching assistant to address the Hack for Education challenge.

Problem

Googling subject-specific questions can often lead to ambiguous answers or non-related solutions. What students require is something to provide real-time assistance to clarify points, questions, and issues within a topic or subject. While teachers are immersed in recreating engaging curriculum for a virtual setting, Samosa Studies will swoop in to provide assistance where needed,

Solution

The IBM Watson Assistant platform incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning to help us create a conversational virtual assistant. Using this platform,we researched the most difficult subjects, coded the AI assistant, and designed the conversational aspects to help it become the most efficient tutor.

What We Learned

Many of us are beginners to coding, and this was a huge learning experience for us. We knew that we wanted to close the gap in online education by creating something that help students, but had limited experience working with AI. However, we overcame this through teamwork and troubleshooting, and all learned the caveats of IBM Watson and integration to our website.
