Roamora

Inspiration

Finding meaningful connections on the road is challenging. Roamora was born from the desire to help van lifers and nomads meet like-minded people who share their adventurous lifestyle. Also, my girlfriend loves you and shares similar interest as the creator. She sent this to me. I told her I'd do this for us.

What it does

Roamora is a dating app designed specifically for people living the nomadic lifestyle. Users can share their van type, travel style, favorite activities, and current location to find compatible matches who understand the freedom of life on the road.

How we built it

I built Roamora using React Native with Expo for cross-platform mobile development, styled with NativeWind (TailwindCSS). The backend uses Bun with Hono framework, Prisma ORM with SQLite, and Better Auth for secure authentication.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an intuitive onboarding flow that captures the unique aspects of nomad life while keeping it fast and engaging. I also focused heavily on making the UI feel native and polished following iOS Human Interface Guidelines.

What we learned

Building for a niche community requires deep understanding of their lifestyle. Luckily I had my girlfriend by my side to help broaden this understanding. She's the epitome of an adventurer. Every feature was designed with the nomad experience in mind.
