Inspiration
As students, we realized that we end up wasting a lot of valuable worksheets and books at the end of every year when there are students in third world countries who are in need of such supplies. So, we decided to create an app that connects these two groups of people.
What it does
Lets students take pictures of their used worksheets and upload them onto Cloud so that other students can browse through the material by the topic/subject and use them to learn.
How we built it
We used Xcode and Swift to create the UI as well as the backend code. We used the Firebase Database to let the user store and access information.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble uploading images onto Firebase Database, but were able to successfully upload pieces of text.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a very user-friendly UI, accessing images through the user's camera roll, and uploading text onto the Firebase Database. We also believe that our app has the ability to help not only students waste fewer resources, but also provide valuable resources to those who cannot access it.
What's next for Recycle Education
We hope to upload the images through Firebase, as well as use Natural Language Processing to erase written text so that students have the ability to use the worksheets and check their answers.
