Inspiration
We’re just three Star Wars fans who love VR. We wanted to see if we could figure out this whole ‘Scene Understanding’ thing, and that’s how this project was born. But it’s not just about understanding the scene - it’s about exploring how virtual objects can interact with the real world. Imagine a virtual R2D2 navigating your actual room, or a virtual Yoda appearing right on your coffee table! It’s about blurring the lines between the virtual and the real, and creating an immersive experience that feels as close to stepping into the Star Wars universe as possible. It’s not just about creating something cool - it’s about challenging ourselves, learning new things, and having a blast while doing it. And hey, if we can bring a bit of the Star Wars universe into our own rooms while we’re at it, even better! So here’s to us, to learning, and to the force that binds us all. Let’s do this!
What it does
Step into a galaxy far, far away right from the comfort of your room with our app. As you launch the app, you’ll be greeted with a Star Wars-themed welcome note that sets the tone for the adventure that awaits. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find R2D2. But this isn’t just a game of hide and seek - R2D2 is on a critical mission to find Yoda before Darth Vader breaks into our room. The stakes are high. If R2D2 finds Yoda in time, Yoda will defeat Vader, ensuring the safety of our room. But if not, well, let’s just say we’d rather not think about that. Our app is more than just a game - it’s an immersive Star Wars experience that brings the thrill of the chase and the excitement of the unknown right to your fingertips. So, are you ready to join the resistance and help R2D2 in his mission? Remember, the force is with you.
How we built it
We used Unity 2022.3 with Meta All in One v64 SDK. For SDK exploration, we took inspiration from 'The World Beyond', 'MRUK Virtual Home' Samples. Thanks to all developers who made their projects accessible for us to learn and build this project. For the 3D Assets, we got it from Sketchfab. Sincere Credits to all the artists and we would like to give credit for making their models downloadable for us.
Challenges we ran into
We'd like to implement a lot of post-processing VFX but couldn't do it in Passthrough.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Postal opening, Auto detection of surfaces and auto navigation of R2D2.
What we learned
Scene Understanding NavMesh Passthrough Capabilities
