Will we be able to detect the temperatures via our mobile phones to mitigate the spread of an infectious disease such as COVID-19? In a few years; You: Hey Siri, detect the temperature of this person.
Siri: 37.5 °C and you are also in a danger zone.. 3 blocks away is the safe zone.

Fever Thermal Mobile, powered by Radiofast Technologies, is a cloud-based, mobile-phone friendly, thermal mobile phone camera, a combo of hardware and software solutions. The proprietary technology (a combo of hardware and software) enables real-time mobile phone friendly thermal-monitoring solutions for individuals, companies, governments to meet the needs of society by technological advances. Fever Thermal is not a diagnosis tool (while it can be benefited as a pre-diagnosis tool), but it's targeted for self-care of well-beings initially. (ref1)

Inspiration

Fever is one of the usual clinical features that appear during the course of several infectious diseases such as CHIKV, HPS, HFRS, HTV and many other type of infectious diseases. It is also a symptom that helps to recognize several disease (ref2)

Infrared band is used for thermal imaging owing to the higher band (wavelengths from about 1 μm to about 14 μm) it occupies, however current infrared imaging solutions/systems are very expensive (for instance, a FLIR infrared thermal camera costs $7000), come limited in functionality (size and power), and they are large (package sizes) and power-hungry (a board requires 10x power) and/or Intrusive and harmful (invasive imaging) , time consuming. Therefore, infrared cameras used to be mostly used in military and imaging systems, There is a need for size, power & price reductions with next generation sensor electronics in medical imaging and to address the society's new needs such as self-care and fast pre-diagnosis of infectious diseases/spreads.

Thousands of people will be going to the events next year. However, lifting coronavirus lockdown measures too early could spark a "deadly resurgence" in infections, as the World Health Organization warned. The 2-meters of social distancing would be violated in various environments through interactions in business and private life.
Thermal imaging already started to be provided as a solution to address this problem; i.e. visitors had to walk past a high-resolution thermal camera that is supposed to detect body temperatures with an accuracy of within one-half a °C degree. A laptop running the software is also placed by the entrance interpretds the data and alerts a technician when anyone had an above-average temperature, a potential symptom of a COVID-19 infection, so the person could be pulled aside for additional screening.

What if this technology would be available within every single person who carries the right to protect theirselves from any virus infection and wearing masks would not be a prevention single-alone. There are a lot of mobile apps for private use, how can the user differentiate? Is the data real? The control should be at individual level to prevent spread and resurgence, when and how they would like to interact with others, rather than trusting any data from 3rd party apps..

What it does

Fever Thermal Mobile (powered by Radiofast Technologies), which is a cloud-based, mobile-phone friendly, pre-diagnosis thermal mobile phone camera combo of hardware and software. Our proprietary technology ( a combo of hardware and software) enables **real-time mobile phone friendly thermal-monitoring solutions for individuals, companies, and governments.

Fever Thermal is the first mobile-phone wireless THz imaging system on silicon semiconductor through patents pending. Through the design and integration of terahertz ultra-wideband and low-noise silicon microchips to provide next-generation wireless, high resolution, high sensitivity, low-cost compact imaging sensors, we also provide employers a handheld wireless imaging devices yielding more-functional and less-expensive products significantly smaller in size for convenient, frequent use in fever detection and medical diagnosis & imaging. Commercializing the imaging sensor technology and integrating the sensors into customers’ handheld wireless imaging devices yields more-functional and less-expensive products significantly smaller in size for convenient, frequent use in medical imaging and instant temperature/fever measurements. Fever Thermal solutions are 5 times lower in cost and size compared to infrared/optical imaging technologies, it is fabricated in silicon processes so they can easily be integrated into mobile-phones.

How we built it and challenges we ran into

After several tape-out, fabrication and measurement phases, the semiconductor chips are integrated into mobile devices and an interface is created to mimic real world conditions, Team combines hardware solutions with digital processing an interface, and several APIs to enhance the user experience. Though it is challenging integrating a system with many technologies in a short time, it was worth fighting.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The research has been going on for a while however its interface to the physical world is built during the hackathon The newly formed team identified a problem benefiting from the technology, and built an urgent solution with economic value to save the industry of art & music and retrain trust of those attending the events. Fever Thermal is the brainchild of 4 countries and 4 multi-versed hackers, ranging from scientists, designers, behavioral change-makers, business developers. It was amazing expertise, collaborating in different time zones and countries; i.e. Belgium, Turkey, United Kingdom, and United States.

What's next for ARTivirus

Fever Thermal would like to build a team that can focus on software & hardware prototyping which will involve selecting the optimal electrical components, such as system-on-a-chip as an example, through to hiring engineers to build out advanced machine learning models to predict the likelihood of an well-being getting contaminated, just from thermal camera images.

So in our to-do-list is fabricating the first prototype and building the complete platform, making it ready for millions of users, getting it out to the market in the next few months, and keeping iterating till we make it the best! We know the necessities in order to continue the project in hardware and software design. Commercializing RADIOFAST imaging sensor technology will be the priority.

Team will also be applying for an EU grant whilst looking to team with partner programs and explore other industry sectors including outdoor events and festivals.

The value of our solution(s) after the crisis

The value and impact of the solution(s) after the crisis is immeasurable. This approach/solution could be applied at any pandemic since fever is the main symptom for most infectious diseases.
