Inspiration
After learning more about the NJ Transit API, our group was extremely motivated to create a user-friendly technology that makes the NJ Transit webpage a lot more convenient to utilize. Moreover, we also wanted to strengthen our skill/experience with using APIs. Hence, we believed that developing this webpage would allow us to garner more technical skills as well as develop something meaningful for NJT clients.
What it does
The webpage provides a graphical map interface of popular tourist attractions in NJ and it also enables the user to find the nearest bus stop. Then they can utilize the already-built NJT webpage to see how they can arrive at the location.
How we built it
We built this primarily using ReactJS, but we also made use of Java to easily parse through the provided NJT API
Challenges we ran into
It was fairly difficult to understand the NJT API and how we could utilize our already-built framework to be more versatile and easily use the information in the API. However, we were able to accomplish those goals (mostly). Moreover, we also utilized the google maps API and we ran into similar issues with both documentation and production.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of the fact that we were able to generate a dynamically working programming application. Moreover, the several functions we defined were also all dynamic and so that makes the project overall usable at any given point.
What we learned
We learned a lot more about using APIs, reading documentation, and more about React as well
What's next for QuickTransit
We would like to showcase, the stops near the tourist locations, and the fastest path to those locations
