We were inspired to investigate this topic because our team is composed of speakers of 8 languages.
We segmented our project into four modules---a web server backend, an image captioning algorithm, a translator based on fairseq, and a speech synthesis system with a profanity checker, for a family safe teaching environment. We incorporated these modules into an Alexa skill, to show the ability for our design to be used in home spaces, such as on the facebook portal in a family's kitchen.
