Inspiration
Profs are such a big part of our schooling lives but yet we know so little about them.
What it does
Profédex is similar to a Pokedex, but instead of Pokémons as entries, the Professors are the entries.
Profédex hopes to allow students to help better understand what their profs are up to. And profs are able to give a brief introduction of themselves to their students prior to the modules. We integrated the Profédex to be as similar as the Pokédex as possible, including fields like name, descriptions. Similar to the different types in Pokémon, we used their research areas as the types. Like the Pokédex, we included where they can be found. But due to privacy, we did not reveal their height and weight, which is also shown in the Pokédex. This Profédex is exclusive to the Computing Region.
How we built it
We used Telegram Bot API and mainly did the work on repl for easier collaboration.
Challenges we ran into
Creating the Database was a tedious process as we had to manually decide what to include in the description. There was some issue with integrating Firebase to our application because of the way we required the data to be structured.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The entire telegram bot
What we learned
How to make a telegram bot and how to work as a team on how to help one another when the other faces challenges. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
What's next for Profédex
Expanding the Profédex to a National Profédex (having other faculties in the data base) such that other faculties can learn about their professors as well. As well as encouraging profs to add their own interesting descriptions/profile image to the Profédex. Additionally, all the information was taken from the school portal which contained some incomplete information(missing photos, missing bios) which would make the Profédex for the Computing Region less complete.
