Inspiration
There are so many people who often forget to take care of themselves and take their pills, or medications, on time. So, our team wanted to create an effective way to regulate that users are able to take their pills on time, through the use of notifications on an app/website.
What it does
Our project, PillPlan, has been made fleshed out into both a website and an app, and we are still improving the functionality of the elements that the project contains. It uses notifications to remind its users to take their medications on time, and it allows users to set their preferences for these notifications as well as personalize their doses for their medications.
How we built it
At first, we started using Android Studio. We got as far as creating the layout and getting the bottom nav bar to function. From there, we created a website to further show the functionality of our project and our user friendly interface. The submitted files contain the code for our website. The functionality of the website is still under construction.
Challenges we ran into
As we are still beginners at programming and still attended a college-level hackathon, we ran into levels of complexity that we had never dealt with before. Even so, we tried to make the most out of what we could, utilizing resources online that allowed us to overcome some of these obstacles and still create both a website and an app to show the functionality of our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we learned many new features of Android Studio and learned HTML/CSS/JS more thoroughly. We believe that these new additions to our CS knowledge will prove to be very useful in our futures.
What we learned
We learned that running into obstacles does not mean we should quit. Instead, we made the most of the resources available to us. We attended every single workshop this hackathon had to offer, and we even tried implementing several of them in our code. Although these techniques may not have worked, we are still going to improve the functionality of this website, and make this project a success!
What's next for PillPlan
PillPlan will be further developed, adding functionality to more of the elements. The user interface will be fine-tuned such that it is even more user-friendly and all of these features will be tested in the near future, with the hopes of someday releasing this project out into the world for use by others.
