Inspiration
Urban transportation often has a major inefficiency problem: thousands of vehicles travel the same routes with empty seats, while passengers pay high fares for short distances. This leads to higher costs, traffic congestion, fuel waste, and unnecessary carbon emissions. OortGo was inspired by the idea of using AI to intelligently connect passengers with vehicles already moving in the same direction.
What it does
OortGo is an AI-powered smart mobility platform that enables ultra-low-cost shared rides by matching passengers with drivers already traveling on the same road and direction. It supports multiple vehicle types such as Bike, Auto, Car, and Eco (7-seater). Passengers can select available seats in real time, track the driver live on the map, receive voice alerts, and pay digitally. Drivers benefit from extra earnings without changing their route.
How we built it
The application was built using a modern full-stack architecture. The frontend focuses on a clean, mobile-first UI with real-time maps and live interactions. The backend handles ride matching, seat availability, scheduling, and payments. Google Gemini (via AI Studio) was used to assist in designing intelligent route-matching logic, UX flows, and AI-driven decision-making for shared rides.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing real-time consistency between passenger and driver views, especially for seat selection and live location tracking. Another challenge was simplifying a complex mobility workflow into an easy-to-use interface suitable for daily users. Ensuring low-cost pricing logic for same-road sharing while keeping the system scalable was also a key challenge.
What we learned
We learned how AI-assisted design and reasoning can significantly speed up product development. We also gained insights into real-time system design, map-based UX, and building scalable mobility solutions that balance cost, usability, and sustainability.
