🌟 Inspiration

While brainstorming for UNC-Charlotte's Urban Development pitch competition, we reflected on our experiences on urban spaces in the United States. Our team soon realized that cities often reinforce community division and wealth inequality. Done through the use of zoning, and car-centric infrastructure. This issue results from a much deeper problem. Local governments, and the tools used to design our cities are often controlled by a narrow segment of the community and corporate interests. Our mission was to challenge this trend, empowering the fellow youth, and the disenfranchised to have a tangible say and impact on the future of our cities.

🛠️ Our Pitch

One size doesn't fit all. When addressing issues in our urban spaces, we aren't challenging what is being built, but rather how decisions about urban development are made. That's what our team created NEXT140 - a platform to inform and empower people to make better and impactful decisions on our cities. This will be done using two tools provided by NEXT140. First is a websire that provides community members with an accessible way to understand urban development and the policies shaping their cities. Second, an Urban Market credit system, inspired by the global Carbon Credit System, to financially incentivize and support sustainable urban progress
