Nenpi

Inspiration

Toyota's rich Japanese heritage inspired us to create Nenpi (燃費, meaning "fuel economy"), a tool designed to streamline how employees analyze vehicle fuel economy data. We wanted to combine Toyota's data-driven approach with modern AI capabilities to create something helpful for employees.

What it does

Nenpi serves as an intelligent interface between Toyota employees and vehicle fuel economy data from 2021-2025. Users can ask natural language questions about specific vehicles' fuel economy and receive AI-powered insights. The app also enables employees to compare different Toyota models, providing clear analyses and visualizations that make complex data easy to understand.

How we built it

We developed Nenpi using a modern tech stack centered around TypeScript and Next.js for a robust frontend experience, with Node.js powering our backend operations. The SambaNova Cloud API forms the core of our AI integration, enabling natural language processing and intelligent data analysis. We focused on creating a seamless interface that could effectively process and present Toyota's fuel economy dataset.

Challenges we ran into

Our main hurdles involved data preprocessing and API integration complexities. It proved to be particularly challenging to work with vehicle specifications and image lookups, requiring careful optimization of our API calls. In addition, ensuring consistent data quality while maintaining responsive performance pushed us to find creative solutions to these technical limitations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a system that makes complex fuel economy data accessible through natural language queries. Our comparative analysis features provide valuable insights to employees, while our responsive visualizations make data interpretation intuitive.

What we learned

This project greatly taught us how to utilize the SambaNova API ecosystem and create AI-powered data visualizations. We gained valuable experience in handling large datasets and implementing efficient API integrations that can scale with user demands.

What's next for Nenpi

In the future, we are looking forward to expanding Nenpi's capabilities by incorporating web-based information sources and enhancing our analysis accuracy. We aim to develop more sophisticated comparative analysis features and improve response precision to better serve Toyota employees in their decision-making processes.
