"Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road. Healthy, free, the world before me."
Walt Whitman knew it well, that life was about that open road, but what he could not account for is the epic growth of technology. I do not view technology as not living in the "real" world, I see it as connecting with the real world in ways we never could before: technology is a complement to taking to the open road.
The inspiration for Momentmap stemmed from wanted to be connected to others, in person. I am also an inquisitive and often impatient person, this lead me to Momentmap because this app allows one to know how long it will take for his or her friend to show up. The user can see their location in real time.
The concept is simple: You send a message to your friend (photo, video, and/or text), select a length of time you want them to see it and send it their way. After the time you allowed is up, your photo, video, location and text all get deleted. The sharing of your location is only momentary.
I do understand that location based social media can be a privacy issue. But this app is a messaging app. A messaging app that allows people to share only what they want to for as long as they want to whomever and only whomever they want to. I am absolutely most proud of this feature because I believe this app will finally solve the issue of location based social media being "creepy". My app calculates the estimated time of arrival so if parents used this app with their children they would both feel safer while still being able to respect one another's privacy.
I believe it is important to not think of social networks as a place online but a place online that leads to have first hand experiences in real life.
