Inspiration
MemoryVault was inspired by the struggles many families face when loved ones begin to lose their memories due to Alzheimer’s or other cognitive impairments. We wanted to create a solution that preserves these precious moments in a secure, collaborative, and accessible way, helping patients feel connected to their identities and loved ones.
What it does
MemoryVault organizes and secures family-shared memories like photos, videos, and stories, enabling Alzheimer’s patients to revisit their cherished moments. Using blockchain for privacy and collaboration, the platform creates a personalized memory archive that fosters emotional well-being and deeper family connections.
How we built it
We combined a Specialized Language Model (SLM) to process and categorize multimedia inputs with blockchain technology for secure and verifiable storage. The user-friendly interface allows families to upload, enrich, and access memories. Blockchain ensures privacy by granting access only to authorized users and validating contributions.
Challenges we ran into
Designing an intuitive interface for older or non-technical users was a significant challenge. Training the SLM to accurately analyze and categorize diverse multimedia data required extensive testing and fine-tuning. Balancing security with accessibility in the blockchain system was another hurdle we worked hard to overcome.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of developing a concept that combines cutting-edge technology with real-world empathy. Creating a system that securely preserves memories while fostering collaboration among families is a step toward making technology truly human-centered. Successfully integrating AI and blockchain into a single solution was another key achievement.
What we learned
We learned the importance of designing with empathy and keeping the user’s needs at the core. Developing for a vulnerable audience taught us to focus on simplicity, accessibility, and trust. We also deepened our understanding of how blockchain can be used in meaningful, non-financial applications.
What's next for MemoryVault
Our next steps include developing a working prototype, incorporating feedback from families and caregivers, and refining the AI for more personalized memory organization. We also aim to explore partnerships with healthcare providers and Alzheimer’s organizations to bring MemoryVault to the people who need it most.
