Inspiration

After learning about the current state of the housing market in 2023, we were rather intimidated, and felt that if we were intimidated, first time house owners would be too. So we decided to create this project as a one small step for our own financial journey, and one giant leap for Marshie-kind.

What it does

Users will complete a checklist that breaks down the steps required for home ownership, and prepares them for the purchase of their first home. When all of the checklist items are completed, Marshie can launch to the moon!

How we built it

We used JavaScript, HTML and CSS to build the front end of the website and also developed our own animations and pictures. Additionally, we used a database to help users create accounts and calculate their savings so that they meet a certain goal.

Challenges we ran into

We had some trouble figuring out the backend, but we were eventually able to get a cohesive website together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

With rather limited experience, we were able to develop a website that could keep track of user progress, so users can update the site when they've achieved parts of their checklist. Furthermore we also implemented a victory screen for users who successfully complete all of their checklist

What we learned

During the hackathon, our team worked hard to learn and use different technologies to make our project. We became good at using Flask, Bootstrap, CSS, and Python.

What's next for Marshmallow Moonbase

We plan using APIs to get information about the home value estimates and will add features like property search filters and mortgage calculators.
