Inspiration
The idea came to me while I was looking for jobs on Upwork. I noticed that many businesses were looking for freelancers to scrape cold leads from Google Maps. Then, they use this information to populate spreadsheets.
What it does
This add-on directly integrates the Google Maps API into Google Spreadsheets.
The add-on has two main features:
1) It allows you to search Google Maps directly from spreadsheets and insert the result into spreadsheets.
2) Select some businesses from the spreadsheet and search for the details associated with those businesses.
How we built it
The add-on interface is a Workspace add-on. The add-on was built using Google Cards. The add-on backend was built via Firebase. We used the real-time database as the database of our application and the cloud functions as serverless functions to communicate with the user.
Challenges we ran into
We had some problems creating the interface because Google Cards is a different tool from those we are used to.
What we learned
It was the first time we worked with Firebase and created a Workspace add-on. We are happy to have succeeded in such a short time.
