Inspiration
Nima has envisioned a large-scale narrative fantasy maze adventure for untethered VR for a few months now. Michael added the concept of making the maze in a non-Euclidean space and Janet, Manny, and Lauren added the concept to mix fantasy, sci-fi, and modern themes, and concepts about the specific puzzles and level design.
What it does
Your life was finally perfect, and you were enjoying a wonderful day off. And then you woke up in the maze.
Confused, you begin your journey, trying to find your way out. But you quickly realize things are not what they seem. The maze is impossible.
How we built it
We built Manifold with Unity, the SteamVR plugin, and the HTC Vive. We used Probuilder and VRTK to speed up our iteration process.
Challenges we ran into
Creating non-Euclidean spaces is hard. Integrating Leap Motion hand tracking is hard.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating non-Euclidean levels in VR.
What we learned
We learned how to use Unity Events to create complex masking systems and audio management systems.
What's next for Manifold
Michael wants to tweak the project for room-scale and controllers and release it for the HTC Vive.
