Inspiration
Reddit communities love interactive games that bring them together. We wanted to create a familiar yet unique word puzzle experience that leverages Reddit's social features while adding our own twist with community-focused competition.
What it does
Lettrix offers daily word puzzles of 5 letters specific to the subreddit , with color-coded feedback and community leaderboards. Players earn points based on performance and maintain streaks, while competing globally or within their language groups.
How we built it
We developed Lettrix using Reddit's Developer Platform, leveraging Blocks for the UI and Redis for backend storage. We created a robust scheduling system for daily puzzle rotation and leaderboard management.
Challenges we ran into
Managing state changes within Devvit's architecture required careful planning and iteration. We had to structure our code to leverage useState and useAsync hooks effectively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a scalable, reddit specific word game that performs smoothly across platforms. The scoring system and leaderboards foster healthy competition while maintaining fairness, and the daily reset system works flawlessly across time zones.
What we learned
We gained deep insights into Reddit's Developer Platform capabilities, particularly in managing state across clients and servers. The project taught us valuable lessons about community engagement and game design for social platforms.
What's next for Lettrix
We plan to introduce custom word lists for moderators, and cross-subreddit competitions. We're also exploring integration with Reddit's awards system and developing new social features to enhance community engagement.
