🎮 Kindness Quest
🌟 Inspiration
Teaching core values like empathy, fairness, and inclusion at a young age is essential. During these formative years, a child’s mind is like a sponge — absorbing everything around them.
We asked ourselves: why not deliver these values through something fun, colorful, and interactive?
Instead of traditional lectures, Kindness Quest makes learning feel like play, combining real-world action with gamified rewards.
🚀 What it does
Kindness Quest is a mobile app where kids spin a colorful wheel to receive daily real-world missions across many impactful categories like
- 💞 Kindness
- 🌱 Environment
- 🚀 Inclusivity
- 🧠 Learn & Share
- 🐾 Animal Love
- ✊🏽 Social Justice
- 🚺 Women Empowerment
- 🌎 Cultural Awareness
✨ Each mission unlocks:
- A micro-lesson, fun fact, or quiz
- Multi-modal submissions like:
- 🎤 Voice recordings
- 🎨 Doodles & scribbles
- 📸 Photos
- ✍️ Short text
- 🎤 Voice recordings
🏆 Kids earn:
- Badges and levels
- Customize avatars
- Appear on a friendly leaderboard
➡️ Making social good a game they love!
🛠️ How we built it
| Part | Tool |
|---|---|
| Frontend | React + Expo (PWA-ready) |
| Avatars | Emojis.com |
| AI Models | Gemini Pro (mission/story), Gemini Flash (image/audio analysis) |
| Backend | Node.js |
| Auth | Auth0 |
| Database | Firebase Firestore, Auth, Storage |
⚔️ Challenges we ran into
- Matching Gemini models to multimodal needs (voice, image, text)
- Crafting kid-friendly prompts and verifying AI output
- Building a prompt validation and tuning service
- Testing Snowflake API for quiz generation (fallback used)
- Facing Auth0 limitations with custom transactional emails
🏅 Accomplishments we’re proud of
- 🎨 Designed a vibrant, child-friendly UI with playful icons and animations
- 🧠 Accepted child voices, scribbled drawings, and multilingual audio
- 💡 Generated context-aware missions per category
- 📬 Sent weekly parent reports showing progress & focus areas
- 🏆 Built a real-time leaderboard to track social missions
- 📱 Delivered both mobile PWA and web app versions
📚 What we learned
- Child-centric AI design is different: Most models are built for adults. We had to handle softer tone, childlike speech, and artistic (non-literal) inputs.
- Created a pipeline for preprocessing and sanitizing multimodal inputs.
- Integrated multi-model orchestration for mission, audio, and image processing with graceful fallback logic.
- Ensured content safety, context relevance, and engagement through custom prompt workflows and filters.
🔮 What's next for Kindness Quest
- 🧠 Fine-tune LLMs for child-safe creativity, emotional tone, and diversity
- 🧩 Build a personalized deed engine based on behavior insights
- 🌍 Enable multilingual support with speech recognition
- 🔔 Add push notifications for daily missions and celebrations
- 📊 Expand parent dashboards for actionable feedback
- 🤖 Explore on-device AI for privacy-first processing
Kindness Quest isn't just a hackathon project — it's a step toward raising the next generation of socially aware, kind-hearted changemakers. 💙
