Inspiration

While brainstorming, we realized that we have friends that love shopping for shoes. They love it so much that they would spend countless hours browsing the internet and camping websites waiting for their chance to obtain the next rarest commodity. We set out for a way to cater to this audience by designing an app built for their community as it empowers both the sellers and buyers while ensuring the safety of both parties through the implementation of safe meet-up locations and secure payments.

What it does

HYP. is an app that allows shoppers to easily connect and interact with sellers of all the latest trending clothing and accessories. Using a simple interface, sellers upload photos of the item they want to sell along with multiple descriptions of their item such as condition and release date. On the other side, buyers will be shown pictures of items being sold with their desired preferences. As simple as swiping right if interested, swipe left if not. Once users swipe right, the seller will be notified of the buyer’s interest and a negotiation of the price may begin. If both sides agree to a price, HYP. will provide a series of options for meeting up. This app provides a feature in which one party may notify the other that they have arrived to the desired location for safe transaction. Once met, the exchange occurs and everyone leaves feeling more HYP.

How we built it

  • Researched iOS and Android specifics for mobile app development
  • Sketched out basic flow of the UI on paper
  • Created and set up SQlite database for storing item data

Challenges we ran into

  • Implementing swipe functionality
  • SQLite bug not changing string type from swift directly into sqlite
  • Sqlite bind function read the binary string code and not the actual value

  • Working Add Item menu and seller profile page

What's next for HYP.

  • Broadening scope from clothing and shoes to cars and other items
  • Safe payment method (Money transferred by buyer is withheld until the buyer receives the item)
