We developed Healup entirely using the Agent Development Kit (ADK) and Vertex AI.

Initially, we planned to use the Med-Gemini model but dropped it due to cost concerns.

We successfully built a foundational system for our healthcare AI, marking a significant stepping stone in our journey.

What We Learned

Healup is designed as a multi-agent system using the ADK. A central coordinator agent delegates tasks to specialized sub-agents that handle symptom analysis, remedy suggestions, and mental wellness support.

These agents have access to health databases, allowing them to retrieve medical information and execute code. The system employs session state for short-term conversational memory and a persistent memory service to remember user health history across sessions.

To ensure safety, we implemented the ADK's callback functions as guardrails to screen user inputs, validate tool arguments, and verify model responses. Our platform also includes built-in features for evaluation, debugging, and scalable deployment on cloud services like Vertex AI.

What's Next for Healup

We are just beginning our journey to create a transformative healthcare experience. Our future roadmap focuses on enhancing Healup's capabilities and integrating it seamlessly into the real-world healthcare ecosystem.

Our next steps include:

  1. Real-World Integration: Connecting Healup to secure healthcare APIs for real-time data and collaborating with specialized agents for tasks such as booking appointments.
  2. Advanced Interaction: Introducing voice and image analysis for more natural user interactions, powered by specialized models like Google's Med-Gemini for expert-level understanding.
  3. Proactive & Personalized Support: Integrating with wearable devices for proactive health monitoring and improving Healup's ability to learn from interactions, enabling more tailored advice over time.
  4. Scaling for Impact: Transitioning to a robust, production-ready environment on services like Vertex AI to ensure that Healup is always available and reliable for our users.
