Inspiration
Due to the stress and anxiety from everyday life, we wanted a place for people to chat with each other or a bot (if they are not comfortable enough) on how they feel and know they aren’t alone. We also wanted to make sure that they are creating a good mindset to stay in a positive mood.
What it does
With virtual school, and all of 2020’s chaos, we wanted a way to reach out to those struggling with their mental health, or simply want a space to learn how to better their lives. Since social interactions have decreased this year, due to the coronavirus, our website would provide a safe space for people to share with one another, listen, and offer advice. With this in mind, we also set out to create a bot designed to simulate a friend or mentor, and check up on you, and give advice when needed. The mental health slideshow gives useful tips on how to create a self-care routine for YOU, as well as defines and outlines different facets of mental health. The slideshow’s condensed information accompanied by the link to CDC tips for dealing with stress from the pandemic serves as a convenient way for people to obtain and learn information using colorful graphics and text. We overall really wanted to stress the importance of mental health, and create a space where we can help people reach out and learn.
How I built it
We built the website using platforms and languages such as: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, Qoom, Repl.it, Weblow, Google Slides
Challenges I ran into
Since mental health is such a broad and complex concept, we struggled a bit on how exactly to cheer people up. However, we decided that in order to maintain mental health, we should first teach people about it, and guide people to find their own happiness and goals. Although we struggled a bit with some of the code, after a period of troubleshooting and rewriting, we were eventually able to create our chatbots.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- We finished! :D
- We were able to finish our first hackathon
- We were able to build our first website with little to no coding experience
What I learned
From this hackathon, we have learned many new aspects and languages in coding such as using HTML to create a popup. We also learned to work as a team in order to get this project done in time and fix problems we ran into.
What's next for Hapapi
In the future, Hapapi can further expand on educating people about the complex nuances of mental health, from discussing what mental illnesses may look like on a day to day basis to informing people on how to help others in need. Later on, we can also include more response options in our Hapapi bot, so that the bot can give a more concrete and specific reply tailored to the user and their needs. Hapapi may also be equipped with a mood tracker that records how you are feeling that day.
